You’ve probably heard about The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, and if you haven’t, you need to check it out. It’s a #1 New York Times best-selling guide to decluttering your home, and organizing guru Marie Kondo wants all of us to surround ourselves with what gives us joy. It’s maybe the best thing since sliced bread, because really, who doesn’t want to live in a space surrounded by the things that truly spark joy for them?

marie kondo quoteImagine your space without objects you’ve kept out of guilt or obligation or because maybe, maybe someday, you might need it. Did you just sigh a little? Because I did. The freedom to rid my space of what’s weighing me down – that’s huge, and life-changing, and joy-sparking! And we, at Serendipity, are making the process just a little sweeter.

No, sorry, we aren’t going to come to your house and help you sort through all of your stuff. But, we’re guessing that your yarn stash just might need a little Kon Mari action. So gather it all together (that’s right…ALL of it) and touch it all, one by one, asking yourself,  “Does it spark joy?” If it does, great! Keep it! If it doesn’t, bring your yarn to the store on February 6th during our Stash for Cash event. We’ll give you $1/lb in store credit so that you can turn those non-joy-sparking balls of yarn into credit to buy yarn that DOES spark joy, inspire creativity, and impart passion. We’ll donate the yarn you bring to the Aliceville Federal Women’s Prison for use in teaching inmates how to crochet. It’s a win-win for everybody! You get an organized stash, we get to help you find new yarn that brings you joy, and the inmates at the Aliceville prison get lots of pretty yarn, too.

So ask yourself, “Does it spark joy?” If not, we’ll help you re-home it. And for all that gorgeous, joy-sparking yarn you keep? Feel free to bring it over to the shop so we can help you find the perfect pattern for it!
