Last week we talked about making your needlework goals for 2018 S.M.A.R.T.E.R. – and this week, well – it’s time to wrap things up so we can actually start working on those goals and developing your needlework skills! 😉
Let’s recap what you’ve done, so far.
- You “Kon-Mari’d” your PIPs and prioritized them.
- You made a list of things you want to accomplish this year – and you turned them into goals.
- You made your goals S.M.A.R.T.E.R.
Congratulations!!!
You’re doing GREAT! I’m so proud of you for taking the initiative to develop your needlework skills. It’s one thing to say you’re gonna do something, but you’ve proven that you mean business.
Now…grab your list of S.M.A.R.T.E.R. goals.
What’s the #1 thing you want to achieve this year, when it comes to your needlework hobby?
(HINT: It should also be your #1 goal.) Got it? Great!
Let’s look at that goal carefully.
Say, for example, that your #1 goal is to complete one gift-able project per month so you have a stockpile of handmade treasures ready when the holidays roll around later this year.
What can you do – just one small something – to help you start making progress toward achieving that goal?
Could you dust off your crockpot and find three new recipes that your family would like – so you spend less time in the kitchen?
Or, how about getting up thirty minutes earlier in the morning and getting some of your chores done – so you have more time later in the day to stitch?
Write down whatever pops into your head – nothing is off limits.
In fact, the more you get down on paper, the better. You can always go back and edit your list later. The idea is to just get moving.
Feel like your ideas are all “baby steps”? That’s perfectly okay! It doesn’t matter how big or small they are – every journey begins with a single step.
After you finish brainstorming, get out your calendar and start scheduling.
Yep – this is where the rubber hits the road. Now, you need to actually set aside the time to do the work required to begin moving toward that goal.
If you decided to dust off your crockpot, then get out some cookbooks or magazines, find those three recipes, and make a grocery list. Set aside some time on your calendar to go grocery shopping, and, when it’s time to put that crockpot to work, you’ll have everything you need. See – easy, peasy!
The time you’d normally be scurrying around in the kitchen can, instead, be spent stitching. (Tee hee…that rhymes!)
Follow through is super-important to your overall success…
so make sure you review your goal every week and keep a record of your progress.
And if you want to tackle more than one goal at a time, go for it! Simply follow the same steps for each additional goal and you’ll be set.
I’d love to hear how things are going, so be sure and share your “wins” with me! Just click here to send me a message!
Oh – one more thing…
Remember that “biggest frustration” list you made? And remember how I asked you to put a little red star beside those things you have no control over? Then, I said we’d talk about them later?
Well, it’s later – and here’s what I’d like for you to do. Take that piece of paper, tear it up into a zillion tiny little pieces, and…toss ’em in the trash!
Channel your inner Elsa (from Disney’s Frozen) and just “Let it go!”
Your needlework hobby is supposed to be fun – not stressful. I want you to develop your skills and build your confidence so every stitch you make puts a smile on your beautiful face.
As always, thank you ever so much for stopping by and, until next time – happy stitching!
XOXO!!!
